Dawson Leach, a standout athlete from Cole Valley Christian High School, is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming Boise Dream Football Classic. At 5’10” and 145 pounds, Dawson plays as a defensive back, but this season brings new responsibilities, as he steps into the role of starting quarterback. Known for his leadership, hard work, high football IQ, and relentless motor, Leach is ready to take on the challenges of this pivotal role while leading his team into a new conference.
A Football Journey Rooted in Family Support
Dawson’s love for football began in the first grade when his father introduced him to flag football. His passion for the game quickly grew, and by the fifth grade, he transitioned into tackle football. The physicality of the game and the competitive spirit it fostered became key reasons Dawson fell in love with football.
"My dad first got me playing flag football in the first grade. I quickly fell in love with the sport and soon started tackle in fifth grade. Even more than just the action, I loved the competitiveness of the sport and the contact of a tackle," Leach explains.
Dawson credits his father for being a guiding force, pushing him to always improve and encouraging him from both the sidelines and as a coach. His parents have instilled in him the values of leadership and teamwork, motivating him to be not just the best player he can be, but a leader who inspires his teammates.
Goals for the Season: Stepping Up as Quarterback
This season presents a new challenge for Dawson as he steps into the role of starting quarterback for the first time. Initially apprehensive about the responsibility, Leach quickly embraced the opportunity as a blessing and challenge.
"One personal goal is to just be confident as the starting quarterback. This is my first year as the QB, and when I first heard the news, I was quite timid and fearful. But, I soon realized that it was nothing but a challenge and blessing from God," he shares.
As for his team, Dawson is eager to make a statement in the new Snake River Valley (SRV) conference. "A team goal is for us to simply do better than last year coming into a new conference. We need to make a name for ourselves in the SRV."
A Leader in the Classroom and on the Field
Dawson is known for his hard work and a strong sense of humor in the classroom, qualities his teachers appreciate. "I think my teachers appreciate the hard work and the sarcasm that I bring to the classroom," he says. "I know when there is an opportunity to have a good time, but I also know when to lock in and get work done."
Dawson’s leadership extends beyond the football field, as he serves as team captain this year. Last year, he earned All-Conference honorable mention honors for defense, and he hopes to improve upon that with a first-team selection on defense this year while also earning recognition as a quarterback.
Excitement for the Boise Dream Football Classic
As the Boise Dream Football Classic approaches, Dawson is eager to lead Cole Valley Christian in what he believes will be one of the best games of the night. "I think this will be a fun time with my teammates and an awesome opportunity to show who we are," Leach says. "I think this will be the best game of the night, and I think we come out on top."
