National Radar Staff

For Coach Tanner Baumann, leading Gooding High School's football team is more than just a job—it's a deeply personal mission rooted in community, tradition, and a love for his hometown. As Gooding High prepares to take the field at the Boise Dream Football Classic, Baumann's leadership is setting the stage for a season defined by growth, character, and unforgettable experiences.

A Lifelong Connection to Gooding

Coach Tanner Baumann's journey into coaching is inextricably linked to his deep ties with Gooding. Born and raised in the community, Baumann played for Gooding High School, where he developed a lifelong passion for football and an enduring love for his school. His commitment to the program and the community made the transition to coaching a natural step.

"This is my third year as a varsity head coach, all at Gooding," Baumann explains. "Before accepting the head coaching job, I was an assistant for six years at Gooding as well. I grew up in Gooding, played for the school, and have always loved this school and community."

Throughout his coaching career, Baumann has drawn inspiration from many great coaches, but one person stands out in particular. "I have been influenced by so many great coaches, but one of my biggest inspirations has always been Jolene Toone," Baumann shares. "You see her name and accomplishments in so many places in the school that it's hard not to feel inspired."

A Decade of Dedication

Baumann’s tenure with Gooding High School football spans nine years, with the last three spent as the varsity head coach. His commitment to the program has been unwavering, and his deep-rooted connection to the community has only strengthened his resolve to build something special at Gooding.

"I have not coached at any other schools," Baumann notes, underscoring his dedication to his alma mater. His journey from player to coach reflects a full-circle moment, where he now has the opportunity to shape the lives of young athletes in the same way that his coaches once shaped his.

Building a Culture of Excellence

As Gooding High gears up for the new season, Coach Baumann’s goals extend beyond the gridiron. His focus is on establishing a culture that prioritizes the development of his players as individuals, not just as athletes.

"My goal is to continue to establish a culture that creates the best humans," Baumann explains. "I think so much of high school sports is the development of the person as much as the football player. If at the end of each season I can look at my team and enjoy the person they are becoming, then I know I have done my job."

This emphasis on personal growth is central to Baumann’s coaching philosophy. He believes that the lessons learned on the football field—discipline, teamwork, perseverance—are integral to shaping well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the challenges of life.

Defining Success Through Growth

For Coach Baumann, a successful season is not solely measured by wins and losses. Instead, it’s about the overall growth and development of his players, both on and off the field.

"My goal is to continue to establish a culture that creates the best humans," he reiterates. "I think so much of high school sports is the development of the person as much as the football player. If at the end of each season I can look at my team and enjoy the person they are becoming, then I know I have done my job."

Baumann’s focus on character development, camaraderie, and resilience is what he considers the true markers of success. By fostering an environment where his players can thrive as individuals, Baumann is laying the foundation for a program that not only competes at a high level but also produces exceptional young men.

Excitement for the Boise Dream Football Classic

The opportunity to play at Albertsons Stadium, home of the Boise State Broncos, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of the players on Gooding’s football team. Coach Baumann is acutely aware of the significance of this moment, both for his players and the community.

"It's a moment that will change a lot of kids' lives—mine as well," Baumann reflects. "I think that this is a great opportunity for the kids to experience one of the great sports venues in the world. So many people have probably never gone to something like this, so I love it for the kids and community."

The excitement surrounding the Boise Dream Football Classic is palpable, and Baumann is eager to see his players take the field on the iconic blue turf. For many, it will be a memory that lasts a lifetime—a testament to the hard work, dedication, and community spirit that defines Gooding High School football.

As Gooding High prepares for the Boise Dream Football Classic, Coach Tanner Baumann’s leadership is guiding the team with a focus on growth, character, and community. With deep ties to Gooding and a commitment to developing his players as individuals, Baumann is building a program that goes beyond the game, creating a lasting impact on the lives of his athletes.

For Coach Baumann and the Gooding High School football team, the upcoming season is about more than just football—it’s about embracing opportunities, building a strong community, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
